The outside looking of Mercedes-Benz Superdome exhibition

Located in the Central Business District of New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, the
Mercedes-Benz Superdome (former Louisiana Superdome) is a sports exhibition which is highly evaluated from architects.


Designed in 1967 by the architectural practice of Curtis and Davis, the steel frame that encompasses it covers 13 acres and the dome has a diameter of 210 meters thus it is the largest fixed structure with a dome on the entire planet.

Apart from hosting the Saints and the Tulane Green Wave (an NCAA team) the stadium also hosts several other events such as the State Farm Bayou Classic, the New Orleans Bowl, the Allstate Sugar Bowl and the BCS National Championship Game once every four years. The NFL has hosted six Super Bowls at the Superdome, with a seventh scheduled for 2013.

The building covers 52 acres of land and its height reaches 77.1 meters while the floor area covers almost 25000 square meters. It can host a varying number of people depending on the sport being played, for football the maximum capacity is of 76468 while for basketball it is of 73432 while for baseball only 63525 persons have seats.
Apart from its multiple purposes during the 2005 Hurricane Katrina disaster it became a shelter for thousands of persons even if it suffered damages too.
