Fabulous hobbit house in Wales

Basically this is the dream house for a Lord of the Rings fan and it seems that dreams can turn into reality with some ambition. Simon Dale showed us all that sometimes you don’t need to be an architect to come up with a nice idea, if you have the necessary imagination.

He designed a very comfortable, environment-friendly home (it doesn’t impact the surroundings at all). The investment was around £3,000 and Simon received help from his friends and father-in-law. He picked the perfect spot for his house. There is a nearby forest-from which he used some materials(this isn’t unusual for Welsh designers). He chose local oak for the surface of the house, the walls and the foundations were made from stone and mud and Simon made an interesting choice for the floor, roof and walls. He insulated them with straw bales.
The main difficulty was to build a house that revolves around a system that relies on alternative energy sources-but Simon managed to win this challenge too,  since his home is now naturally lit. As we step inside the house, we can notice some peculiar details. The walls are made of lime plaster-it’s a wiser decision if you come to think of it since lime plaster has a lower energy footprint compared with cement.
Everything inside-the windows, the plumbing, flooring, finishings etc was built from discarded scrap materials-unbelievable, but true. The heating system is actually a wood burner and the refrigerator is maintained cool with the use of an innovative system-basically the system pipes cool air from underground-and this keeps the refrigerator cool.
Since the hobbit house lies near the woodlands the water comes from a nearby spring. Electricity is brought to Simon’s house with the use of solar panels. The sun beams provide the small home with natural light during the day time. The house itself is a testimony of ambition. You don’t need to have special training or qualifications to make this happen. And you also don’t need a stack of money to live in comfort.

Inspiring from the residence in Norway : ZEB Pilot house

ZEB Pilot house is an design completed by  Snøhetta,in collaboration with ZEB and Ootimera. This house is an innovative architecture project embedding a variety of sustainable solutions.
The building in Larvik, Norway has everything a single family house needs, yet it is intended as a show-home for various groundbreaking energy-efficient systems. But we can’t help feeling intrigued by its original exterior, with an oblique dominant black volume and sloping roof clad in solar panels. Have a look at the last photo of this post for a better understanding of the project and its features!

Architects believe , focus on carbon emissions associated with building materials represents a new direction in the vital drive toward a sustainable construction industry: “To achieve ZEB-OM classification the project is required to document and verify a minimum of 100% CO2 offsetting. Renewable energy production via photovoltaic and solar-thermal panels integrated in the building envelope enables offsetting of carbon emissions generated by the burning of fossil fuels in power stations. By offsetting in this manner we reduce emission of other greenhouse gasses simultaneously.”
ZEB Pilot House in Norway is an inspiring example of how architecture and sustainable technology combine in raising living standards, as well as environmental consciousness.
